One of the 18 Mahā Shakti Peethas, Sri Chamundeshwari Temple crowns Chamundi Hill at 1,062 metres — the eternal kula devata of the Wadiyar dynasty, slayer of Mahishasura.
Devotees who climbed a thousand steps before dawn. Pilgrims who travelled through the night. Families who have kept this faith across generations. For each of them — this moment, before the sanctum doors — is the entire purpose of the day.

She who dwells in all beings as devotion — Devi Mahatmyam
Sri Chamundeshwari — a fierce, luminous form of Adi Shakti — is venerated as the kula devata of the Wadiyar dynasty of Mysore. Her name derives from Chanda and Munda, the demon generals she slew in her form as Durga.
The hill itself bears her name — ಚಾಮುಂಡಿ ಬೆಟ್ಟ — and the city of Mysuru is named for Mahishasura, the buffalo demon vanquished atop this very hill. The 1,000-step path has been trodden by devotees, royalty, and sages for over eight centuries.
