Slayer of Mahishasura, protector of the Mysuru Maharajas — Sri Chamundeshwari Temple crowns Chamundi Hill at 1,062 metres. One of the 18 Maha Shakti Peethas and the eternal kula devata of the Wadiyar dynasty.
Every morning, before the sun crests Chamundi Hill, the first footsteps arrive. Devotees who climbed a thousand steps before dawn. Pilgrims who travelled through the night. Families who have kept this faith across generations.
For each of them — this moment. Before the sanctum doors, hands folded, heart open — is the entire purpose of the day.

Sri Chamundeshwari — a fierce, luminous form of Adi Shakti — is venerated as the kula devata of the Wadiyar dynasty of Mysore. Her name derives from Chanda and Munda, the demon generals she slew in her form as Durga.
The hill itself is named for her: Chamundi Betta — ಚಾಮುಂಡಿ ಬೆಟ್ಟ. And the city of Mysuru takes its name from Mahishasura, the buffalo demon vanquished by the goddess atop this very hill — eternal testimony to the triumph of light.
The temple's inner sanctum enshrines the goddess in golden Kavacha armour, with the sacred Mahisha idol at her feet. The 1,000-step path carved into the hill has been trodden by devotees, royalty, and sages for over eight centuries.
